ADHD ASSESSMENTS

If you or your child are experiencing symptoms of impulsivity, executive functioning challenges, struggling with attention or focus, that are out of normal developmental levels and these symptoms are impacting your life negatively, you may be seeking a diagnosis and for more understanding or treatment recommendations in the area of ADHD.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neuro-developmental disorder and we provide a comprehensive evaluation to determine a formal diagnosis. All ages can be assessed. The option for a full psycho-educational assessment will be discussed in the intake session to determine suitability.

Assessment Process

What does an ADHD assessment involve?

A full psycho-educational assessment typically takes between 10 to 14 hours.

It will include an intake session, questionnaires, standardized testing, rating scales, a written report, and follow-up feedback session to review report.

A psycho-educational assessment includes the following steps:

Intake Meeting - this can be done virtually or in person and is about an hour to an hour and a half in length. (in-person interviews are scheduled at my NW location on Sundays)

This meeting is to review the consent form, discuss the reason for the assessment, background information, a thorough history, and to inform of the next steps in the assessment process.

Clinical Interview - parents/guardians & client. Along with history taking, questions may be asked to get a thorough history of the family attachments, medical history, and other behaviours that are relevant to making a diagnosis. Depending on the age of the client, a serious of questions will be asked and the play room will be used to observe a child who cannot answer questions.

Standardized testing,

Depending on the tests implemented, this can take 3 or 4 hours spread across a few sessions.

Information will be gathered through the use of these direct testing measures to look at cognitive abilities, executive functioning, academic, and language skills.

Non-Standardized testing & Criterion based testing
These rating scales can identify areas of executive functioning and social emotional co-morbid diagnoses as well as features of ADHD.

Questionnaires
Sent to adult clients, parent(s)/guardian(s), relevant partners or family members, and teachers.

Review/Report
I will review all documents/reports, observations, and questionnaires.

A report will be written that outlines the findings of the information collected from the assessment. This will contain a clinical summary, with empirically supported recommendations.

Feedback Follow-up Session

An hour session will follow to review the results in the report and discuss any recommendations for treatment.

*** please note at this time Kirsten is under supervision for formal assessments with Dr. Danielle Droucker. This will be explained in this first session and requires Dr. Droucker to consult and view Kirsten's clinical application and interpretation of results for the report. ***
