EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing.

Using EMDR can be useful for those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. It can also be helpful in reprocessing disturbing memories, nightmares, phobias, panic attacks, etc.

Many might not realize that there are 8 phases of treatment. The desensitization phase is only one portion of a larger whole that will ensure the most effective and safe treatment plan is followed. Some will spend more time in the preparation stage, to ensure that emotional disturbances can be managed so the desensitization can occur safely.

How long will it take? It will vary considerably.

One positive about EMDR is that a person does not have to go into great detail about a traumatic event. It can also be used with children!
